Book shopping.
The photo was taken the day my first book released. If you look close, you can see it right above my head.

 Pets

If you've visited Emmatyville, you've heard all about these spoiled brats.

Paganini

PaganiniYes, he is every bit as evil as he looks, and more. He is the quintessential scaredy cat who hisses at everyone but me and freaks out if anyone comes near him wearing boots.

Princess Magi

Princess MagiShown with her royal nose in the air. She's the type who takes affection when she wants it. Don't bother when she doesn't. You will be held in the highest disdain if you do.

Booger

BoogerDumb as a post but the sweetest cat ever. Purrs like a misfiring outboard, regularly falls into the bathtub and toilet, and poses shamelessly, for he knows just how adorable he is.

 Unofficial Bio

When a publisher asks for a bio, they want them short, polished and professional. But what fun is that? Very little, usually, so here's the less-varnished version.

As a kid, I could always be counted on for one of the following: reading, swimming, getting into trouble, or doing something musical. I had a sort of love/hate relationship with swimming, but reading and music were all love. Over the course of my music career, I played piano, flute, picollo, tenor and baritone sax, oboe, bass guitar, percussion... basically everything except brass.

I attended several different colleges, and still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. The problem is, I'm interested in so many things, it's painful to limit myself to just one. Yet that's the great thing about writing: If I feel like being a doctor for a while, I can write a doctor character. Tomorrow I can write a cop or a theif.

The one thing I am every day is a stay-at-home-Mom with all the usual concerns and responsibilities. If you're a Mom, you know there's nothing limiting about it -- Motherhood is a hundred careers in one. Short-order cook, nurse, maid, catbox changer, laundry troll, homework drill sergeant, referee, therapist, stylist, innocent bystander, valet, wife, veterinarian, dentist, etc.

Hmm... Maybe I simply lack time to decide what to be when I grow up.

There's no such thing as a normal routine around here, but my favorite kind of days are the ones where I tackle all the domestic duties while getting the kids ready for school, then write until the end-of-schoolday cellphone ritual begins. Yes, two of my kids have cellphones, one for each school. It's a "just in case" type deal. You know, "just in case" they're thinking about accidentally forgetting their homework in their locker. Or "just in case" they've invited their entire class home. Or "just in case" Mom's off in writer la-la-land and has forgotten to pick someone up.

I spend a lot of time in writer-la-la-land. There's always something to write, plot problems to sort out, or editing to be done. And of course new stories and characters are forever waiting to be developed. The writing life may be lonely and sedentary, but it's rarely an idle one, I can tell you.

I laugh when people ask what I do with my freetime. Who has freetime anymore? It's more a case of what I do when I need to shut my brain down, and for that, I turn to my Weapons Of Mass Distraction: my kids, my cats, books, games, and movies.

Can you stand the excitement?

That said, I do like life with the drama confined to the page, so all things considered, I consider myself lucky to be so excruciatingly boring.
